Every outpatient visit, every wound dressed, every follow-up kept becomes a data point in our impact reports. But numbers don't capture what actually changes for the person living through it. The leg that wasn't amputated. The ulcer that finally closed. The pain that went untreated for seven years and then didn't have to be anymore.
These are a few of those stories, told by the doctors and care teams who saw them through.

A wound that wouldn't heal, until consistent care turned it around
For months, nothing seemed to work. Then, for the first time, my wound started healing. The AM Foundation team made sure I kept coming back, and it made all the difference.
Vasu, 58
Seemavaram, Tamil Nadu, IndiaVasu, 58, retired and living in Seemavaram, had been carrying an unhealed ulcer near his ankle since January 2025. One that a first course of treatment elsewhere hadn't resolved. When he came to Seemavaram AM Healthcare Centre the following month, his care team found the underlying cause: type 2 diabetes, complicated by years of irregular medication adherence linked to alcohol use.
The treatment was straightforward, but it required consistency. This meant antibiotics, regular blood sugar monitoring, a diabetic diet, alcohol abstinence, and wound dressings, six of them over several weeks. At his follow-up visit, the wound showed fresh healing tissue and significant improvement.

One complication to another, consistent care saw him through
I didn't think I'd get through it all. I got back on my feet, and back to work. My family needed me, and the AMHC team never gave up on me.
Rajini, 44
Kannampalayam, Tamil Nadu, IndiaRajini, 44, had managed diabetes for three years while working as a daily wage labourer to support his family. In February 2024, a swollen foot developed into multiple infected wounds. After debridement at another hospital, financial constraints brought him to Kannampalayam AM Healthcare Centre for continued care.
His case grew more complex. His care team identified jaundice, which required urgent referral to Madras Medical College Government Hospital for treatment alongside sepsis. Then came shingles, triggered by his weakened immune system, treated at the same time as everything else.
Back under AMHC's care, Rajini's infected leg wounds - with exposed tendons - needed surgical debridement, intravenous antibiotics, and six to eight weeks of continued wound care. He recovered fully, with no lasting disability, and has since reduced his alcohol consumption.

She was told she'd lose her leg, she chose another path

Arthiymmal, 55
Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, IndiaArthiymmal, 55, works as a housemaid in Rajiv Nagar, Thoothukudi. A road accident crushed her right leg so severely that doctors at the government hospital recommended amputation below the knee. She declined, and sought care instead at AM Healthcare Centre, Abirami Nagar.
Her treatment was consistent, not dramatic: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, supportive care, and daily wound dressing. Over time, she went from needing help to reach the clinic to riding a bicycle there on her own.

Seven years of pain, and a team that finally treated it

Perungavoor, Tamil Nadu, IndiaMatilda, 41, had lived with an abscess on her back for seven years without regular medical care. When she came to AM Healthcare Centre, her care team - led by Dr. Kamala Gayathri - found a large, inflamed abscess that needed surgical drainage.
The procedure, done under local anaesthesia, was followed by weeks of alternate-day wound care from a team that included Nursing Assistant Jennifer and Health Assistants Vivega and Venkata Lakshmi. Matilda's recovery was steady. Today, she's stable and free of the pain she'd lived with for years.

She didn't feel the worms in her wound, until they were gone
"I didn't know there were worms in my wound until the doctor found them - I was in shock. They treated me with such care, and within a week, I was completely free of the pain."
Shanthi, 42
Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, IndiaShanthi, 42, lives in Thangamalpuram, near Soosai Nagar, and has worked as a daily wage labourer in building construction since her husband passed away during the pandemic three years ago. She is the sole breadwinner for her family, supporting her two school-going children and her sister, who is deaf and mute. In March 2024, she injured her right foot at a construction site and left it untreated for five days as the pain worsened, especially in her little toe. She came to Soosainagar AM Healthcare Centre for care.
On examination, Dr. Irish Evangelin found an ulcer discharging fluid - and, on closer inspection, maggots within the wound. Seven were removed that day and three more the next, after which her pain eased noticeably. She was treated with antibiotics, analgesics, wound-healing medication and vitamin supplements, alongside daily sterile dressing and close follow-up. Her ulcer healed completely within seven to ten days.
